We are proud to announce the launch of a new high-impact project aimed at improving maternal and neonatal survival in the Masindi District of Uganda. This ambitious initiative will lead to the creation of a Center for Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEmONC) at the Missionary Sister of Mary Mother of the Church (MSMMC) Health Center in Kyatiri, with the aim of transforming it from a Level III to a Level IV Health Center.
The project is made possible thanks to funds from the Catholic Church, which allocates part of the 8×1000 of total IRPEF revenue tocharitable initiatives for the development of peoples.
Why this project?
In the area where P.A.C.E. has been operating for more than 10 years, mothers and newborns face enormous difficulties in accessing timely and safe obstetric care. The only facility capable of performing cesarean sections and providing intensive care is located 28 km away, a risky and often inaccessible journey. In this context, preventable maternal and newborn deaths remain sadly high.

Cosa prevede il progetto
Il progetto prevede:
Costruzione e equipaggiamento completo di un nuovo Blocco Materno-Infantile, con sala operatoria, unità di terapia intensiva neonatale e materna, sale parto e degenza, e area per il metodo “Kangaroo Mother Care”.
Realizzazione di un piccolo Blocco Emergenze con sala operatoria minore.
Creazione di un ambulatorio di Ostetricia e Ginecologia con sale visita e stanza per ecografie.
Acquisto e dotazione di un’ambulanza completamente attrezzata per il trasporto d’urgenza.
Costruzione di strutture di supporto essenziali, tra cui mortuaria, area per lo smaltimento dei rifiuti sanitari con inceneritore, e sistema solare per garantire continuità energetica.
Assunzione e formazione del personale sanitario, in linea con i requisiti del Ministero della Salute ugandese.
Our objectives
Obiettivo primario: Ridurre i tassi di mortalità e morbilità materna e neonatale nel sotto-distretto.
Obiettivi specifici: Riqualificare il centro a Livello IV e sviluppare un centro operativo CEmONC funzionante.
Monitoring, evaluation, and sustainability
We will use SMART indicators to regularly monitor project results: maternal and neonatal mortality, postpartum morbidity, and performance of new services. Key evaluations are planned annually, starting at the end of the first year.
Our three-year sustainability plan envisages the gradual autonomy of the center, thanks to increased revenue from healthcare services, the ongoing commitment of donors, and investments in efficient infrastructure, such as solar power. In addition, there are plans to develop an agricultural activity linked to the center to generate income and create jobs in the community.

Il progetto è finanziato con fondi provenienti dalla Chiesa Cattolica, che destina parte dell’8×1000 del gettito complessivo IRPEF per gli interventi caritativi per lo sviluppo dei popoli e realizzato da P.A.C.E. OdV in collaborazione con le Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church e la comunità locale di Kyatiri.
